The first thing potential clients ask me is "so how does this work...?" What is the next step in making the choice to hire a doula?
1. PHONE CONSULTATION
We will have a brief conversation to discuss your due date and whether or not I will be available, the location of your birth and the kind of birth you are hoping to have.
2. IN PERSON INTERVIEW
We will schedule a time to meet in person and get to know each other a bit and talk about your goals and how I can best support you. Ideally your partner will be joining us.
3. SLEEP ON IT
Take some time to think it over and even interview other doulas to see who is the best fit for you and your family. It's all about that special connection!
4. MOVING FORWARD
If the decision is made to proceed with me, I will email our contract and paperwork for you and your partner to review and sign then return to me. At the time of signing the contract I will collect a non-refundable 50% deposit and retainer fee to ensure my time is reserved for you. From this point on I will be available to you 24/7 for text/phone/email support.
5. PRENATAL VISITS
Depending on where you are at in your pregnancy when you contract with me, I will schedule 1-2 prenatal visits with you in your home. We will go over your preferences for your ideal birth plan, which I will prepare for you, basic newborn care, and the basics of babywearing. (Complete Babywearing Class offered separately.)
6. NEARING THE END
The balance of my fee will be collected 3 weeks prior to your due date. I will be on-call for you between 38 and 42 weeks gestation and ready to come to you once you are in labor and want my support.
Once you are in labor and ready for me to come support you I will be by your side at your beck and call. I will stay until after baby is born and I know you are settled nicely and baby has latched on if you are choosing to breast/chestfeed.
I will come to check in on you and baby about 2 weeks postpartum to make sure things are going smoothly. If you need additional postpartum support we can discuss a customized plan at that time.
